Character Personality: Generally soft-spoken and quiet at the best and most comfortable of times and people, Chris outside of his few friends and doesn't deal well with socializing much. Chris's upbringing plays a key part in that, and the fact that he was given an opportunity to decide he's own life by his mother means a great deal to him. He is someone who has no problem taking orders from people regardless of age or gender or anything else. That being said, if told to do something by Officer Jenny or a Pokemon Ranger he'd likely just go along with it. When in contests or just plain battling, Chris changes completely. He thinks about the battles and strategizes immensely, thinking ahead. He thinks of his pokemon as his friends and team mates and can't stand when trainers and others abuse their pokemon for the sake of training. He is also indefinitely more social with his friends and Pokemon, and if you're someone he makes a bond with you are a friend for life.
For the vast majority of the time, Chris is quiet and reserved. So much so when he battles other trainers he usually doesn't speak to the trainer. He would pay attention to the battle and maybe say a word of of congratulations if he lost the battle, but other than that nothing. He tends to keep to himself mostly, never wanting to disturb others for fear of not being able to get along with them. That said, his pokemon and his battling skills usually speak for himself as he's not too shabby in that department. He ends up easily embarrassed, particularly when his pokemon cause trouble like Klep stealing someone's badge or Cassie challenging a trainer when it's supposed to be Chris not Cassie who does so. He does however treat his pokemon well and with care and love despite (or maybe because of) their quirks. He does not get along with abusive trainers and despite his relunctance to socialize he would not hesitiate to defend a pokemon from it's trainer and even call the authorities if need be.
While he does not get along greatly with his Ranger father, he does respect his choice even if he doesn't agree with it. In his presence he feels he cannot measure up. That was a key factor in deciding to travel the world and becoming a trainer. In part because he enjoyed the freedom from his family and his father's pressure for him to become a Pokemon Ranger but also he loved battling and contests. While he doubted he was League material he loved Pokemon and that was all there was to it. Chris does care greatly about Pokemon. So much so, that he prefers to socialize with them more than people sometimes. He also has a bit of a hero complex in that if someone is in trouble (like if a wild pokemon attacked him/her or a thief stole something) he would feel he has to get involved and help someone in need. This may be in part to years of being subjected to a Ranger's job and feels that people shouldn't suffer needlessly. His pokemon particularly Cassie, get annoyed sometimes at Chris' need to help anyone who's in trouble which sometimes slows the training down a bit.
Character History: Chris was born into a family of Rangers and Breeders from Veilstone City, his mother came from a long line of Breeders while his family came from four generations of Rangers which resulted in a... strange upbringing for Chris Ramirez. His father wanted him to continue the tradition of the Ramirez men as a Ranger, while Chris (silently, mind you) just wanted to experience the world before making his final decision. This resulted in him not being allowed to choose his starter until age fourteen. When he was ready he along with a friend of his: Kit and an aquaintance of his named Len, decided to become trainers. Kit allowed Chris to choose first. Which eventually was decided on a Chimchar he named Cassie. Cassie as a Chimchar and Monferno had a dream to become an Infernape and as such had always pushed Chris towards exceptionally hard training. Fiercely protective of her trainer despite her rather harsh criticism, she'll attack who anyone insults or attacks her trainer. She in fact, may symbolized Chris' desire to change and grow. She evolved to Monferno prior to the Eterna Gym in Eterna City and eventually became an Infernape before arrival in Snowpoint City for his seventh Sinnoh Gym battle.
Chris' journey enabled him to become a fairly successful trainer. He has gone through a variety of regions before returning back to Sinnoh. He had taken a part of the Sinnoh, Hoenn, and Johto Leagues respectfully, doing fairly well but losing before he could make it to the finals. One of his goals has been to learn as much as he could about Fire and Water types, specifically a pokemon he has had his eye on for quite some time: Mantine. When he traveled to Johto as a young boy, he spied the pokemon once and fell in love with them immediately. Because of his tendancy to raise a variety of types, he is well adversed to exchanging his pokemon frequently. Since his acquiring of his Gardevoir Maya and his Honchkrow Klep, they have been staples in his Pokemon team as well as his occasionally swapped out Poliwrath Hydris.
While in Hoenn he caught a rather curious Ralts that had been watching him for some time which has since evolved to Gardevoir and later found a Murkrow in Olivine which he helped treat back to health. Though he possessed more pokemon than these three, these were what he brought with him when he returned to his home region. During the course of his journey, his parents had moved to Jublife City where they had retired to. It was during that a recent visit to Jubilife City, that he was informed by his mother about the Bohren League. After resting for a half a day or so, he makes the decison to travel with just four of his previous Pokemon: Cassie, Maya, Klep, and Hydris.
First Person: Um, hello. I'm Chris Ramirez from Jubilife City, formerly from Veilstone City. This place looks interesting that's for sure... I'm curious though, is there a Pokemon Contest around? Those were always a bit of fun to watch.
Infern. Ape.
Oh, and Cassie wants to know where the first gym is? That's my Infernape, in case some of you are curious. And if anyone is in this town 'Longbranch Town', I think the name is, I would welcome a battle, or directions. Maybe both. Anyway, I guess I'll be talking to everyone later. Bye.
Third Person:
Chris Ramirez knew he should be concentrating on getting a new Pokemon however, he felt this was more important. He took in a deep breath of fresh air turning to his Infernape, Cassie. "Isn't this great? Feel that fresh air? Isn't it wonderful? We're here!" Cassie just sniffed the ground closest to outside the surrounding area, not looking pleased.
"Ape. Infern." Chris frowned at his starter's expression. "Oh, boy... There is time for training later, okay? Just take it easy right now and let's just enjoy ourselves. I wonder if Len and Kit are still in Kanto. Last I heard they were." Cassie thought about that for moment and shrugged as best she could. He started thinking on their next plan of action.
"So... What do you think Cassie? Should we stick around?" Chris paused as he thought of his choices. Whatever happened, happens. It'll be an adventure! Cassie just stood ready for whatever her friend and partner decided. She knew he had trouble making his mind sometimes which resulted in some... interesting gym battles the past five years.
Cassie grabbed Chris' right arm and pointed to the skyline heading towards the inner part of Longbranch Town. Chris wasn't really surprised at Cassie's choice though. She wanted a strong opponent. "So, that huh? Guess we're going to challenge the Gym Leader whenever we get there. Until then, we train. And maybe get a new member to help out. We'll see how things progress. Let's get started. And this time if we encounter a Rhyhorn or Rhydon let's aim for the horn, okay?" Cassie gave a quick nod, and then they renewed the training.
